About us
Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.
About the Role
Your Voice is a new specialist team in the Family Law Division of Legal Aid NSW that will provide family and civil law advocacy and casework services to children and young people who are in out-of-home care (OOHC) or have had an OOHC experience.
We have received short term funding from the NSW Law Society Public Purpose Fund up until the end of June 2025 to establish Your Voice. Accordingly, these temporary positions are available for up to 9 months, depending on contract start dates.
This role is based on Central Sydney Head Office, however a flexible work locations negotiable pending operational needs.

About You
We are looking for an Aboriginal Field Officer (AFO) to help shape this exciting and important new service.
You are a passionate Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, who is dedicated to achieving better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in Out-of-Home-Care.
In this role you will:
- Assist the Solicitor in Charge (SIC), Senior Project Officer, solicitors and other relevant staff to facilitate outreach services and community legal education sessions as required.
- Make connections with relevant Aboriginal community members, Elders, and service providers.
- To provide support to solicitors assisting Aboriginal children and young people, including communication about and coordination of matters.
- Provide guidance and feedback to Legal Aid staff on ways to work with Aboriginal children and young people to improve the workplace by increasing cultural awareness of staff in consultation with the Aboriginal Services Branch.
The essential requirements for this role
You must:
- be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- have a current Working with Children Check, or be willing to get one before you start work with us
- have a valid Driver’s Licence
- willing to do a Criminal Record Check
- ability to travel as this role will require frequent travel to other locations.
